In May 2020, after a long battle with cancer, Or Ezrati passed away at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center. He was just 45 years old.
At the end of the thirty-day mourning period, his four year- old son, Yanai, asked to come back to Ichilov and realize his wish – to meet TASMC CEO, Prof. Ronni Gamzu. When Yanai used to visit his father in the hospital, he felt the dedication and compassion of the staff who cared for his father at the Hemato-oncology department, and in his mind, Prof. Gamzu was the mommy and daddy of this place. Prof. Gamzu immediately acceded to the request.
Yanai brought his piggy bank to the meeting, with all the money he had saved, including gifts from visitors during his father’s Shiva, and presented it to Prof. Gamzu. “I want this money to be used to build another building with 13 rooms for patients and one big room for Dr. Lily Gepstein, who took care of my Daddy,” Yanai explained as he gave Prof. Gamzu coins amounting to 88 shekels.
Prof. Gamzu was deeply moved by the visit and told the young guest, “You are an amazing boy, incredibly sensitive, generous and smart. We hope you grow up happily and from now on, that you will know only moments of joy. A big hug from us all.” Yanai’s story is a poignant reminder to us that, when guided by vision, compassion and generosity, we can make our dreams become reality.

The Generous Donation that Touches Our Hearts
The Cardiology Division recently acquired cutting-edge world-class technology for the benefit of cardiac patients. The upgrade included new cardiac catheterization systems and an advanced electrophysiology lab for the treatment of arrhythmias for the Interventional Cardiology Unit, a modern monitoring system allowing for the advanced, precise monitoring of critical care patients, and 4 echocardiography machines for accurate simulation of heart and valve structure and functioning for the Non-Invasive Cardiology Unit. The hospital invested approximately seven million shekels in the purchase and installation of these technologies.
Prof. Shmuel Banai, Director of the Cardiology Division at TASMC, says, “The Division of Cardiology provides the most advanced cardiac healthcare in Israel, using simulation and monitoring equipment based on the most sophisticated, advanced technology in the world with the aim of upgrading treatment and care to the highest level we are able to provide.”
He continued by adding, “This equipment includes two new cardiac cath labs, which from now on will enable angioplasty procedures to be performed with an accurate assessment of blood flow in the heart, in both the major arteries and small arterioles, and high-quality simulations of the arterial lumina and walls, greatly enhancing simulation quality during procedures to repair heart defects and the implant of valves. Our excellent medical team, coupled with the most advanced technology, create a winning combination.”
The purchase of these new technologies was made possible thanks to the generous contribution of Prof. Ruth Arnon and Dr. Uriel Arnon, Ms. Rivka Saker and Mr. Uzi Zucker – long-standing and loyal friends of the Medical Center, who, for many years have supported the advancement of high quality, compassionate medical care.
